Biography
Born February 15, 1922 in the village of Lutno (now Shklovsky district , Mogilev region , Belarus ) in a peasant family. Belarus .
He graduated from 7 classes, worked on a collective farm .
In the Red Army since 1940 . Member of the Great Patriotic War since June 1941 . Sniper of the 1008th Rifle Regiment, Senior Sergeant Gennady Velichko from the beginning of the war to June 1943, destroyed more than 330 Nazis from a sniper rifle. He was awarded a registered sniper rifle.
Being an excellent shooter, G.I. Velichko became a sniper instructor and trained fourteen snipers for the front, who subsequently exterminated a lot of enemy soldiers and officers and were awarded orders and medals for their military work.
Since 1946, Lieutenant Velichko G.I. - in stock. Member of the CPSU (b) / CPSU since 1950 . He worked in the city of Kamensk-Shakhtinsky, Rostov Region, was a deputy of the City Council [2] . In 1963 he graduated from the Electromechanical College. Since 1967 he lived and worked in the city of Yenakievo, Donetsk region of Ukraine, then moved to the Stavropol Territory - to the city of Mineralnye Vody .
He died on October 21, 1999 . He was buried in a civil cemetery in Mineralnye Vody [3] .
Rewards
- By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 26, 1943, for the exemplary performance of command missions at the front of the struggle against Nazi invaders and the courage and heroism shown to that, Sergeant Velichko Gennady Iosifovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal "(No. 1051).

Memory
- In the city of Mineralnye Vody, on the alley of Heroes of the Soviet Union, a memorial to G.I. Velichko was erected for the fallen mineral workers in the Great Patriotic War.
- A memorial plaque was installed in the Victory Park of Kamensk-Shakhtinsky Hero.
