The city of Stanley is one of the tourist attractions of Tasmania. The city has a port, which is used mainly by fishing vessels [2] .

Content
Geography
Stanley is located on a small narrow peninsula in northwestern Tasmania, which is issued in the Bass Strait and ends at North Point ( English North Point ). Sawyer Bay is in the east of the peninsula, and Perkins Bay is in the west.
Next to Stanley is a famous mountain of volcanic origin ( Neck ), which is called Nat ( born The Nut - "nut") or Circular Head ( English Circular Head ). Mountain height - 143 m [3]
History
In 1826, the first settlers arrived at this place - the British workers of the [2] . In 1827, the seaport became operational. The first school was opened in 1841.
In 1843, the city was named Stanley, in honor of Lord Stanley , who at that time was the British minister for war and colonies [2] , and later (between 1852 and 1868) became the prime minister of Great Britain three times .
In 1936, the first telephone cable connected continental Australia and Tasmania - it was laid from the city of to Stanley [4] .

According to the 2016 population census, the Stanley population was , 53.0% of men and 47.0% of women. The average age of Stanley residents was 47 years [1] .

Famous people born in Stanley include Joseph Lyons (1879–1939), the tenth prime minister of Australia (1932–1939) and the prime minister of Tasmania (1923–28), and Bill Mollison (born 1928), a scientist - naturalist, founder of the permaculture system.
Transportation
From the highway Bass Highway ( eng. Bass Highway ), running along the north coast of Tasmania, to Stanley branch road Stanley Highway ( Stanley Highway ). The distance to the nearest town is Smithton - 21 km .
