A Brief History

Radio Azattyk was founded in 1953. Its first radio program in Kyrgyz language was broadcast on March 18, 1953. Initially, its radio programs were broadcast through short waves.

Since 1990, Radio Azattyk has been hiring local correspondents from Kyrgyzstan itself.

Since 1991, the Bishkek Bureau of Radio Azattyk has been operating.

Since 1992, radio programs of Radio Azattyk have been broadcast on VHF, medium waves and FM in Kyrgyzstan.

A parallel edition is the Russian Service of RFE / RL ( Radio Liberty ), which broadcasts in Russian for Russia.

In addition to them, there are also 26 other language services of RFE / RL.
