The orbital period of revolution around a pair of maternal stars is 229 days. The first maternal star is an orange dwarf of spectral class K and has a mass of 0.7 solar masses , and the second star is a red dwarf of spectral class M with a mass 5 times smaller than the sun [2] . A planet the size of Saturn , consists half of gas and half of stone [3] and is a confirmed planet with a multiple orbit [4] .

The planet was discovered in 2011 using the transit method with the Kepler telescope [5] . Scientists were able to detect the planet due to the darkening of one star at a time when the second did not overshadow it [5] .

I believe that this planet is best measured from planets outside the solar system.
- - Laurence Doyle [6]

Kepler-16 b is unusual in that its orbit is smaller than the radius, which was considered the internal boundary for the formation of planets in the binary system [6] . According to a statement by planetary expert from the Massachusetts University of Technology (MIT) Sarah Seager, it was previously considered necessary for a planet to have a stable orbit in such a system, it must be removed from the stars at a distance of at least seven times greater than the distance at which they removed from each other [6] . The orbit of Kepler-16 b is located only at half this distance [6] .

The passage of the planet of one of the stars will be unobservable from the Earth since 2014, and the second, brighter star, from 2018. After this, the planet will be undetectable by the transit method until 2042 [6] .

The surface temperature of the planet is low, ranging from −70 ° C to −100 ° C. A year on the planet (revolution around both luminaries) lasts 229 days .

In the press, the planet was compared [2] with the planet Tatooine from Star Wars , which also revolved around two stars.
