Biography

Born April 21, 1953 in Ashgabat in an Orthodox family. Parents - Yuri Ivanovich and Zinaida Fedorovna Filatov were medical workers.

In 1974, the family decided on a place of residence in Abkhazia , in the city of Sukhumi , where the young Vyacheslav was engaged in icon painting , sang in the church choir, carried altar obedience.

On April 22, 1976, he was ordained deacon by Metropolitan Ilya (Shiolashvili) of Sukhumsky in the Sukhumi Annunciation Cathedral, with a definition of ministry in the same cathedral.

In 1991, the city of Makeyevka, Donetsk region, became the residence of Father Vyacheslav.

On May 2, 1991, he was ordained a priest by the bishop of Donetsk, Ioannikiy (Kobzev), in the Peter and Paul Cathedral in the city of Lugansk , and was appointed rector in the St. John-Kronstadt Church in the city of Kirov, Donetsk Region.

In the same year he entered the correspondence sector of the Kiev Theological Seminary .

On June 1, 1993, he was appointed clergyman of the Kazan church in Makeevka, and on June 8 of the same year, he was rector of Makeevsky St. George's Cathedral.

On January 5, 1995, he was tonsured a monk by the bishop of Donetsk, Ippolit (Hilko), in the Nikolaev Cathedral of the city of Donetsk, with the name of Barnabas in honor of the apostle from 70 Barnabas .

From October 22, 1995 to August 16, 1996 he bore obedience to the Dean of the Makeevka District of the Donetsk Diocese.

On October 11, 1996, he was elevated to the rank of hegumen by the archbishop of Donetsk, Hilarion (Shukalo) .

On August 31, 1997, he was elevated to the rank of Archimandrite by Metropolitan of Kiev Vladimir (Sabodan) .

From October 27, 1998, he was determined to be a member of the Diocesan Council of the Donetsk Diocese, and from March 25, 2002 - Dean of the Torez District.

On January 24, 2007, by the definition of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, he was elected bishop of Makeyevsky, vicar of the Donetsk diocese.

February 10, 2007 in the St. Nicholas Cathedral of Donetsk was named bishop.

February 11, 2007 St. George's Cathedral Makeevka was ordained bishop of Makeevsky, vicar of the Donetsk diocese.

On March 29, 2007, by the decision of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Church, he was appointed manager of the newly founded Berdyansk diocese with the title “Berdyansk and Primorsky”, but already on October 18 of that year, having heard the report of Metropolitan Hilarion of Donetsk on the appointment of the vicar bishop, the Synod of the Church decided to return Vladyka Varnava to Makeevskaya vicar department.

On April 21, 2013, in connection with hard work and in connection with the 60th birthday, he was awarded the Order of St. Seraphim of Sarov, 2nd degree, by Patriarch Kirill. [one]
