The first find was made in the summer of 1997 by Japanese, Mongolian and Chinese paleontologists as part of the joint expedition Mongol Highland International Dinosaur Project in the Oelan Soehai area in Inner Mongolia , where rich places with dinosaur fossils were found. At the site of excavation five meters by two meters long, skeletons of at least fourteen ornithomimids belonging to a previously unknown species were found. Already in 2003, the find was described as a new species in a separate article by the Chinese paleontologist Lü Junching . The species was named Sinornithomimus dongi .

Limbs

The shoulder blade is long and thin, 204 mm long, according to the holotype IVPP-V11797-10 and slightly shorter than the humerus, the connection between them is characteristic of all ornithomimids. This scapula expands at the top and has thin edges of processus acromialis .

Cladogram

Sinornithomimus was placed in the Ornithomimidae family in a relatively basal position just above Archaeornithomimus . Sometimes, however, Archaeornithomimus occupies a higher place in the cemetery [1] .
