Tarjan is one of the seven tribes of Hungarians that was part of the ancient Hungarian confederation of tribes of the era of "Conquest of the motherland on the Danube" . The tribe of Taryan is mentioned by Konstantin Bagryanorodny in his work “On the management of the empire” [1] .
According to Gyula Nemeth , the name of the Taryan tribe is seen in the Turkic designation of the title "Tarkan" - "Tarkhan" (one of the titles of the military leader). In historiography, the Hungarian tribe of Taryan is compared with the Bashkir tribe of Tarhan (Gayna) in the Urals [2] .
In Hungary, there is the city of Taryan, named after this Hungarian tribe.
