The All-Russian Research Institute of Irrigated Horticulture and Melon Growing is an agricultural research institute, the only one in the south of Russia conducting research in the field of genetics and selection of melons . The institute has 9 departments and laboratories, in which 11 doctors and 33 candidates of science conduct research.

History
In 1911, on the initiative of the Astrakhan Society of Gardening, Horticulture and Field Crops, an entomological station was organized.
In 1921, the Entomological station was transformed into the Astrakhan gardening station.
In 1930, the gardening station was reorganized into a zonal agricultural experimental station. [one]
In accordance with Decree of the Council of People 's Commissars of the USSR No. 3 s-402-3 of August 5, 1938, the Astrakhan Integrated Agricultural Experimental Station (AKSHOS) is organized on the basis of scattered strong points and experimental fields. The director of AKSHOS was G.I. Tsilinov . Since 1956, AKSHOS has been transformed into the Astrakhan State Agricultural Experimental Station.
Until 1962, the station was in Astrakhan in the Pokrovskaya Grove area, then it was transferred to the village of Tabola, Kamyzyaksky District, Astrakhan Region . Since February 1962, the director of the experimental station was G. G. Schieler , who made a great contribution to its development and arrangement in a new place. The research results of the experimental station were widely introduced in collective farms and state farms of the Astrakhan region . Numerous studies of the experimental station have been published in many brochures, special publications, in scientific and scientific-production journals, as well as in regional and district newspapers.
In 1963, breeding work was first started to develop new varieties of tomatoes and watermelons adapted to local conditions.
On October 19, 1966, an order was signed for the USSR Ministry of Agriculture on the establishment on the basis of the Astrakhan State Agricultural Experimental Station of the All-Union Research Institute of Irrigated Vegetable and Melon Growing . [one]
The first director of the institute was G.I. Tsilinov . When it was formed the backbone of scientific personnel, identified the main directions of scientific research.
A great contribution to the establishment and development of the institute was made by the doctors of agricultural sciences R. V. Alekseev, V. N. Sizov, Yu. I. Avdeev, K. E. Dyutin , N. E. After G. G. Tsilinov retired in 1974, V.P. Greznev was appointed director. From 1982 to 2000, the director was A.V. Romov. From 2001 to 2010 - Doctor of Agricultural Sciences Professor V.V. Korinets .
Since 2010, the Director is Doctor of Agricultural Sciences. M. Yu. Puchkov .
In 2018, VNIIOB was liquidated and now DOES NOT EXIST.
