The battle of makeup artists is an American reality show in which nine participants, confident in their ability to do professional makeup, fight for the title of “great makeup artist”, a cash prize of $ 100,000, the opportunity to work on the set of InStyle magazine and a contract with the cosmetic brand MaxFactor . The reality show was aired on Lifetime Television on November 11, 2008 in the United States . In Russia, the show was broadcast on MTV on September 4 and 11, 2011 [1] .

Show format
The show is a competition for the right to be called the best makeup artist. Participants compete in the ability to do professional makeup quickly and efficiently. Not only professional skills will be tested, but also personal qualities: confidence, sociability, and the ability to compromise.
Each episode consists of two competitions.
- The first is a competition from MaxFactor - a competition for creative thinking and a non-standard approach to the situation, immunity or some advantage in the competition for relegation is given for victory.
- The second is the relegation competition. The professional abilities of the participant are checked, the participant with the worst result, according to the jury, is eliminated from the competition.

- Mora “Mo” Levitus is a makeup artist from Las Vegas , Nevada who was born in Northbrook , Illinois . At the time of the show, Mo was 28 years old and she was the main makeup artist at Belaggio [2] .
- Sharzad Kideh is a self-taught makeup artist from Cupertino , California . At the time of the show, Sharzad was 25 years old, in her own words, she was fond of makeup from the age of five [2] .
- Nolan Makawawa is a makeup artist from Costa Mesa , California . At the time of the show, Nolan was 33 years old and worked as a makeup artist and consultant for MAC Open Gay for nine years [2] .
- Todd Homm is a makeup artist from New York , NY . At the time of the show, Todd was 23 years old. He took up makeup from the age of 14 [2] . On December 13, 2008, Todd was found dead at his home in New York. [3]
- Mike Michaels is a makeup artist from Studio City , California . At the time of the show, Mike was 54 years old, he has already worked in more than 100 films [2] .
- Jessica Millington is a makeup artist from Dallas , Texas . At the time of the show, Jessica was 31 years old, she came to the show for the sake of her children [2] .
- Maxi is a makeup artist from Los Angeles , California . Surname and age are unknown. Maxi considers himself antisocial, claims to have worked with all rap stars [2] [4] .
- Farah Carter is a makeup artist from Las Vegas , Nevada . At the time of the show, Farah was 37 years old, she is a single mother and freelance makeup artist [2] .
- Raynel Chivon is a make-up artist from New York , NY . She was 28 years old at the time of the show; she is a freelance makeup artist. [2]

- Vanessa Marcel is the host of the show, an American actress known for her role as Brenda Barrett Corinthos in the series Main Hospital , Gina Kincaid in the series Beverly Hills, 90210 and Sam Marquez in the series Las Vegas .
- Hal Rubinstein [5] - editor of the fashion department of InStyle magazine.
- Joanna Schlip is a stellar makeup artist [6] [7] .
Charlie Green, a make-up artist, was a mentor; she worked with such stars as Naomi Campbell , Kelly Clarkson , Tyra Banks , Elizabeth Hurley , and she created makeup for Vogue, Elle and GQ [2] .
Series Description
Series 1: Episode # 1.1 (November 11, 2008)
- Max Competition - participants had to create makeup using food and seasoning as a material. Maxi, as the winner of the competition, received immunity in the elimination competition.
- Shootout contest - participants had to come up with a new look for the twist-disco video clip of pop star Danny Minogue .
The winner is Todd, the retired is Jessica.
Series 2: Episode # 1.2 (November 18, 2008)
- Max contest - participants had to create makeup and body art, inspired by exotic animals. The work was in pairs: Todd and Nolan worked on the zebra image, Mike and Maxi worked on the parrot-ara image, Farah and Sharzad worked on the flamingo image, Mo and Raynel worked on the monkey image. Todd and Nolan, as winners of the competition, were given the opportunity to choose models in the elimination competition, first to themselves, then to everyone else.
- Elimination contest - participants had to create an image for portraiture in the style of glamor of the 40s for the Parisian photographer Jacques Azran.
The winner is Farah, the retired is Raynel.
Episode 3: You Got to Have Friends (November 25, 2008)
- Max Competition - participants had to recreate two images from the proposed decades: the 20s, 50s, 70s, 80s. Fara, as the winner of the competition, received immunity in the competition for the elimination. Sharzad was unable to cope with the task and she left the contest.
- Competition for elimination - the participants had to come up with an image for the bride. The participants worked in pairs, one did makeup for the bride - the bride herself chose a makeup artist, the other - for her friends - in the given style. Mike did makeup for the bride, his partner Maxi - for girlfriends, Todd did makeup for the bride, his partner Nolan - for girlfriends, Farah did makeup for the bride, her partner Mo - for girlfriends.
The winner is Todd, the retired is Mike.
Episode 4: Hollywood Legends (December 3, 2008)
- Max Competition - participants had to create two images - a “good” sister and a “bad” sister. Maxi won this test.
- Elimination competition - participants had to come up with an image for the dancer of the Jubilee show in Las Vegas .
The winner is Nolan, the retired is Mo.
Episode 5: Decades (December 9, 2008)
- Max contest - participants had to recreate the image from the photograph when explaining to another participant. The participants worked in pairs - Maxi with Todd, Nolan with Farah. Fara, as the winner of the competition, chose a model for herself at the retirement competition, and also selected a model for the rest.
- Elimination contest - participants need to create an image of a recognized style icon. Maxi got Greta Garbo, Nolan - Audrey Hepburn, Todd - Marilyn Monroe, Fare - Sophia Loren,
The winner is Maxi, the retired is Farah.
Episode 6: Decades, Finale (December 16, 2008)
- Max contest - participants had to create a make-up of the future. Nolan, as the winner of the contest, was the first to get advice on the elimination contest.
- Elimination contest - participants had to come up with nine different looks to show the Badgley Mischka brand. The participants came up with an image for relaxation, ready-to-wear and in the style of “high fashion”.
The winner is Nolan, the retired are Maxi and Todd.
Prizes and Winner
The winner of the show “Battle of Make-up Artists” received:

Nolan [8] , as the winner of the show, received all the prizes. He worked for InStyle magazine in May 2008 with actress Jessica Stroup [9] . Jessica appeared in the August issue of the magazine.
