Aland ( Finnish. Ahvenanmanner , Swede. Fasta Åland ) is the largest and most populated island of the Aland Islands archipelago, owned by Finland and located in the Baltic Sea . On the island is the capital of the autonomous region of the Aland Islands, Mariehamn , in which about 90% of the population of Aland lives (11,186 people according to 2011 ). Aland Square is 685 km². It is the third largest island in Finland and fifty-second in all of Europe . The length of Aland from north to south is approximately 50 km, from east to west - 45 km. The highest point is Ordalsklint Hill (129 m).
