Wergeld ( German: Wergeld from other upper-German: Wör “man” + Gölt “price”) - monetary compensation for the murder of a free man, established in German barbaric truths . Vergeld was paid by the murderer’s family to the family of the murdered, gradually replacing blood feud . It was established depending on the social status of the victim, his gender and age, on what nationality he belonged to ( Gallo-Roman or Germanic ).
