The highest point is Mount Peñalara with a height of 2428 m above sea level . Geologically, the massif is composed of granites and belongs to the system of the Iberian Central Cordillera . Sierra de Guadarrama is located in the autonomous communities of Madrid and Castile and Leon (province of Avila and Segovia ) northwest of the capital of Spain [2] between the Sierra de Gredos and Sierra de Aiglione massifs.
Sierra de Guadarrama stretches from southwest to northeast and is a watershed of the largest rivers of the Iberian Peninsula - Tahoe and Duero .
The massif is dominated by heights of 900–1200 m above sea level. In the lower part of the Sierra de Guadarrama, it is covered with oak forests, pine dominates above, and shrubs and meadows prevail at high altitudes. The nature of the mountains is well preserved and rich in living species: deer , wild boars , roe deer , fallow deer , badgers , weasels , lynxes , foxes and hares . On the shores of reservoirs - a wide variety of waterfowl , in the mountains also live the Spanish burial ground and black vultures .
