History
The company was founded in Liverpool in 1984 under the name Psygnosis Limited . It was one of the leading computer game developers in Europe. The company logo is a white owl , a symbol of wisdom.
The company was acquired by Sony Corporation in 1993, and played a key role in the launch of the Sony PlayStation in 1994.
At the end of 1998, Eidos Interactive acquired the European units of Psygnosis . The US units of Psygnosis remained the property of Sony .
In 2000, Psygnosis (like the Sony brand) left the video game market forever. All American studios were closed. The UK studio was acquired by SCEE and renamed SCE Studio Liverpool , and became part of SCE Worldwide Studios .
On August 22, 2012, it became known that SCEE decided to close SCE Studio Liverpool and cancel all new projects created by the forces of the studio, the last game of which was Wipeout 2048 for PS Vita . According to rumors, SCE Studio Liverpool was engaged in Wipeout for PS4, as well as a game in the style of Splinter Cell (possibly a new part of Syphon Filter ) for Sony's new home set-top box.
