Biography
World Map of Hendrick Gondius , 1630.
Gendrick was born in Duffel in 1573 and in 1597 moved to The Hague [3] .
According to the book of biographies of Cornelis de Bee Het Gulden Cabinet [4] , his father was Wilhelm Gondius, a learned man who moved to Mechelen , where young Gendrick learned to write [5] . At first, he studied jewelry in Brussels , and then began to study painting with Jan Viryks . Later, in 1604 in Leiden , he studied mathematics and architecture with Hans Wredeman de Vries [3] [5] .
Perhaps he is connected by family ties with the famous cartographer Eudocus Hondius .
