Odessa Naval Base (abbreviated as Odessa Navy ) is a heterogeneous association of the Black Sea Fleet of the USSR Navy .
History
Odessa Naval Base 1st formation
Formed on February 14, 1940 with the borders of the operating zone from Lake Oysterichnoe to the mouth of the Danube (excluding Vilkovo ), it included all coastal artillery of the North-Western fortified area and the Ochakov fortified sector. The light cruiser Komintern and the gunboats Krasny Adzharistan , Krasnaya Armenia and Krasnaya Gruzia , water area protection ships: the Lukomsky mine layer, 2 minesweepers , 4 patrol boats and 17 small MO-type hunters were based on the Odessa Naval Naval Base. -four. The base commander was also promptly subordinated to the 2nd brigade of torpedo boats with 28 pennants, based on Ochakov . By the beginning of World War II , the base's defense included surface ships, coastal artillery (44 guns of caliber from 45 to 203 mm), defensive minefields and barriers to enter the port. After the outbreak of the war, a defensive minefield (1672 sea ββmines and 479 mine defenders ) was set up on the approaches to Odessa, which, in combination with coastal artillery, represented a powerful mine-artillery position. Air defense base provided fighter aircraft and anti-aircraft artillery. The defense of the base from land was insufficiently secured. The forces of the Odessa naval base played a role as a deterrent in the disruption of the German offensive, the prevention of invasion from the sea, the comprehensive support of both the naval forces and individual naval and land units, as well as in the evacuation of formations and units of the Odessa defensive area on October 16 1941 year. After the evacuation, the base was disbanded on November 20, 1941 [1] .
Odessa Naval Base 2nd formation
The new formation of the Odessa Naval Base was carried out on November 29, 1943 . In the period from October 28, 1945 to February 4, 1946, the North-West Defensive Region functioned, and from February 4, 1946 to July 12, 1947, the North-West Sea Region acted. Later, the Odessa naval base began to function again with the operational zone in the northwestern part of the Black Sea from the mouth of the Danube to Cape Tarkhankut [2] .
In 1960, the Odessa naval base was disbanded [2] .
