History

Formed on July 2, 1941 as the 2nd division of the people's militia, in the Stalin district of the city ​​of Moscow , it was replenished with militias from the Balashikha district , the Serpukhov district , the Shatura district of the Moscow region and partially by the militias of the 22nd division of the Cominternovsky district of Moscow , as well as draftees from the building army from Kalinin and Ryazan regions .

Place of formation: secondary school number 434 , at Scherbakovskaya street, house number 36 .

The division mainly included:

  • volunteers of the Moscow Electrozavod them. Kuybyshev (transformer) , the plant MELZ , the plant ATE 1 [1] ;
  • volunteers of the Shcherbakov factory ;
  • volunteers of engineering plants of the Stalin district.

  • battalion of the national militia (about 800 people) from the Balashikha District of the Moscow Region. He formed the 3rd Battalion of the 5th Infantry Regiment. This battalion consisted of workers, engineering, technical and economic workers of the Balashikha and Reutov cotton factories, the Balashikha textile factory , the Savvinskaya spinning factory , the Kuchinsky brick factory , the students and teachers of the fur-fur institute , the collective farmers .

On the night of July 7-8, the division marched from Moscow to the Khimki - Shodnya - Kryukovo area . Here she was to receive military uniforms, weapons and vehicles. As a result of the very first transition, out of 12,000 people recruited, 3,500 were eliminated. The rest were fully equipped in Khimki. On the night of July 10-11, using the rail and road transport, the division moved to the area of ​​the cities of Klin and Vysokovsky . Here, two new battalions of the national militia, formed in the Kalinin and Ryazan regions, joined the division. On July 13, 14 and 15, the division erected a defense line on the Kuzminskoye - Teryayeva Sloboda - Lyubyatino sector with a total length of 15 kilometers. On July 17, the division switched to the Lamu River . Here, by July 25, the defensive line was completed on the Osheikino - Yaropolets - Ivanovskoye sector (north-west of Volokolamsk ). This zone was the northern part of the Mozhaisk defensive line, which played its role in repelling the first offensive of the German troops against Moscow in October 1941. On the same day, the division became part of the 32nd army of the Mozhaisk front line.

On July 25, the 2nd division of the national militia received orders from the headquarters of the 32nd army to reach the Vyazma river by July 31, prepare and occupy defense with the front line on this river from Ordulev to Serizhani (now does not exist) - with a total length of 18 kilometers along the front. On the Vyazma River, the division built the main defense zone with the front edge along this river and the barrier line, as well as the second (rear) defense line. This strip had a leading edge along the line Lama - Marino - Pekarevo - Bogoroditskoe and further southeast along the eastern shore of the swampy Bebrya stream with a total length of about 18 kilometers.

On September 1, the 2nd Infantry Division of the national militia replaced the 1st FZ Siberian Infantry Division on the Dnieper , which went to the Yelnya area to participate in the 24th Army's counterstrike. The division was stationed on the Serkovo - Spichino - Yakovlevo section , riding the highway and the Moscow - Minsk railway . In September 1941, the division built fortifications near the Moscow-Minsk highway at the crossing of the Dnieper .

Transformed into the rifle division of the personnel structure on September 26, 1941, with assignment of a troop number and renamed into the 2nd rifle division .
