This million-tonne list of coal mining countries is based primarily on estimates from the Statistical Review of World Energy [1] published annually by BP plc , as well as estimates by the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) .
According to the Central Dispatch Department of the Fuel and Energy Complex of the Russian Federation (CDU TEK), in 2017 Russia produced more than 400 million tons of coal [2] .

The list includes countries with a coal production of more than 5 million tons per year. The list is sorted by data for 2016, if data for this year are not available, then according to data for 2015.
