Franklin ( born Franklin Strait ) is a strait separating the southeastern coast of the Prince of Wales Island of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago from the Butia Peninsula [1] .

Geography
Franklin Strait is located in northern Canada . The shores of the strait are completely in Nunavut . The Peel Strait connects the Peel and Bello straits in the north with Larsen Bay in the south and McClintock Strait in the southwest. The average width of the strait is 32 km. The average depth of the strait is 70 meters in the south and 400 meters in the north. Franklin Strait is part of one of the routes along the Northwest Sea Route from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean through the Lancaster , Barrow , Peel , Franklin, Larsen Bay, Victoria Strait, Queen Mod Bay, Dis Strait, Corona Bay, Dolphin End Union , Amundsen Bay .
It is covered with ice for most of the year, significant melting of ice begins only in early August and continues until early September, the strait begins to freeze again from mid-September [2] .
Named after the famous English polar explorer John Franklin .
