Story
Ensign Keith, discussing with the lieutenants Marik and Kiefer the behavior of the new commander of the destroyer “Kane”, lieutenant-commander Kvig, comes to the conclusion that he is mentally ill. Having decided to displace it, they understand that their arguments are not convincing, and at the last moment refuse their plans.
Destroyer falls into a violent storm. Due to Quig's indistinct orders, watch officers have fears that the ship will overturn. At a critical moment, when the commander falls into a stupor, the officers remove him from command. Upon arrival at the base, Lieutenant Marik, who assumed command, appears before the tribunal on charges of rebellion. Reluctantly, Lieutenant Greenwold takes up his defense. During the process, Kiefer distorts the facts to avoid punishment. The psychiatrist who examined Quigus did not reveal any mental illness in him. Everything points to the guilt of Marik. The commander himself appears before the court as a witness. Responding to Greenwald's questions, Quig behaves inadequately, and the court has to acquit Marik.
The officers celebrate the happy end of the process in the hotel restaurant. Kiefer asks not to publicize his testimony when Greenwold comes out drunk. He reproaches those celebrating for disrespecting the commander, who for many years served faithfully and points to the true culprit, who was supposed to be in the dock, Lieutenant Kiefer.
