Kankake ( English Kankakee ) - a city in the north of the United States , in the county of Kankake , Illinois . According to the 2000 census , the city's population was 27,561 people; according to the 2010 census, it practically did not change, only slightly decreased to 27,537 [1] . The city is the district center of the eponymous district [2] . The name of the city may come from the Algonkin word teeyaahkiki , in the local Native American dialect meaning "flat land" [3] [4] .

According to the US Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 37.9 km² (14.62 miles²), of which 1.2 km² (0.48 miles², ie 3.28%) of the territory is water.
Population
According to the 2000 census [5], the total population of Kankaki was 27,561 people, with a population density of 865 people per km².
