Famous residents
Maksheev Alexey Ivanovich (12.05.1822 - 04.04.1892) - a geographer, researcher of Turkestan , lieutenant-general of the Russian imperial army , professor of the Nikolaev Academy of the General Staff. Born in a small noble family in the village of the Ridge of Ustyuzhensk county. He was buried in the cemetery in the village of Ilinsky (3 km from the village. Gryada)
Maksheev Ivan Alexandrovich (b. 1783), landowner of the village of Gryada, Ustyuzhensk District, captain of Kexholm Musketeer Regiment , town governor of Ustyuzhna (1824-1836), prototype of the mayor from the comedy “The Inspector” of Gogol , father of Maksheev Alexei Ivanovich . For the distinction in the campaign of 1807, at Heilsberg and Friedland, he was awarded a gold sword with the inscription “For Bravery”. In 1812, as part of the Novgorod militia, he participated in the blockade of Danzig.
