Department of Historical and Philological Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences

The Department of Historical and Philological Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences (OIFN RAS) is a branch of the humanities whose history begins with the highest rescript on October 19, 1841 . [1] In October 1841, the Russian Academy joined the Academy of Sciences in the form of the Department of the Russian Language and Literature .

History

In 1841, as a result of the reorganization of the Russian Academy , the Department of the Russian Language and Literature of the Petersburg Academy of Sciences was formed . At the head of the Branch stood the Presiding Officer - Prince P. A. Shirinsky-Shikhmatov . Later, the chairmen of the ORNF were philologists I. I. Davydov , P. A. Pletnev , I. I. Sreznevsky , Y. K. Grot , A. F. Bychkov , M. I. Sukhomlinov , A. N. Veselovsky , A. A Chess and V. M. Istrin .

The Department of Humanities under the Charter of the USSR Academy of Sciences in 1927 (paragraph 4) included such areas as history , philology , sociology , economics , etc. [2]

The 1930 charter in paragraph 23 changed the name of the department in the structure of the USSR Academy of Sciences to the Department of Social Sciences; in 1938 - at the Department of History and Philosophy; literature and language. In 1953, the Department of History and Philosophy was transformed into the Department of Historical Sciences. According to the 1963 charter, the Academy of Sciences of the USSR included the Department of History and the Department of Literature and Language. Then at the Academy of Sciences a new structure appeared - the Section of the Presidium of the USSR Academy of Sciences , uniting groups of Departments, including the Section of Social Sciences, which included the Department of History, the Department of Philosophy and Law, the Department of Economics and the Department of Literature and Language (Section 47). "The Regulation on the Branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR" was approved by the General Meeting of the Academy in February 1963, "The Regulation on the Section of the Presidium of the USSR Academy of Sciences" was approved by the Presidium of the USSR Academy of Sciences in December of the same year. The main tasks of the Departments were determined by the President of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR MV Keldysh in May 1963 [3] .
