Career

After a trip to New York in 1986, he met Neil Gaiman , with whom they worked on the graphic novel Violent Cases , released in 1987. In 1988, he worked on the comic strip Black Orchid , as well as the covers for the Hellblazer comics. [1] [2] Beginning in 1989, he created covers for The Sandman comic book by Gaiman, and in the same 1989, he and Grant Morrison worked on Batman 's graphic novel Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth .

Later works include his collaboration with Gaiman on children's books The Day I Swapped My Dad for Two Goldfish (1998) and Wolves in the Walls (2003), as well as children's novels Coraline (2002) and History with a cemetery ”(2008). “Wolves in the Walls” was adapted to the musical, which premiered in Glasgow in 2006. In 2011, McKean worked with Richard Dawkins on the non-fiction book for children, The Magic of Reality.

In January 2005, at the Sundance festival, the premiere of his first film “ Mirror Mask ” [3] , the script for which was written by Neil Gaiman, took place. Prior to that, he participated in the production of several music videos and short films. The release of his second film "Luna" is scheduled for 2014 [4] .
