It covers an area of 43 hectares (106 acres ), a volume of 3.8 million m³ (> 1 billion gallons ), a depth of 12 m (40 feet ), and a coastline of 2.5 km (1.58 miles ) [2] [ 1] .
It was built between 1858-1862 [1] , the authors of the reservoir are the famous designers of the Central Park Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vox .
In 1917, a fountain was installed on the reservoir [5] .
The lake is surrounded by an interesting landscape with thickets of Yoshino cherry and Japanese Kanzan, rhododendron cherries [3] . The fauna of the lake includes species such as mallard , geese , coot , loons , grebe , herons .
In 1994, it was renamed in honor of Jacqueline Kennedy [5] . The original name of the reservoir is the Central Park Reservoir.
