Description
The river is 248 km long (with the Archagyl brook), the catchment area is 5530 kmΒ² [3] . It flows among the ridges in the Chersky ridge system in the zone of continuous permafrost [4] . It originates on the eastern slope of Mount Spornaya (east of Cherge peak) [5] . The direction of the current is southeastern [6] . It flows into Kolyma in 1809 km from its mouth (5 km above the village of Debin ).
Main tributaries (the length in km is indicated in parentheses)
- right - Sukhakhi (54), Dzhelgala (51), Duskanya (27), Shustra (26), Peter (25).
- left - Sokhatinaya (30), Inappropriate (26), Last (26).
Economic Development
In the lower part of the river on the left bank is the village of Yagodnoye [7] . From the mouth along the left bank runs the P504 Kolyma highway, which crosses the river over the bridge in the middle course. Near the estuary, a bridge was built across the river [8] on the Debin- Sinegorye highway, as well as the Kolyma Hydroelectric Power Station - Orotukan transmission line.
Since the 1960s placer gold deposits are being developed in the river basin. As a result, places of a very complex technogenic relief were formed here, including overburden dumps of different ages, dragee and quarry pebble dumps, efelas, and various artificial reservoirs [9] .
A significant part of the settlements that existed earlier in the basin ceased to exist, the villages of Burkhala (near the bridge in the middle course) and Senokosny (near Yagodny) survived.
Etymology
The name is translated from Yakut. dyabin - rust. This is due to the fact that the hills surrounding the river valley have a reddish-yellow color, similar to rust [10] .
