Meissen fummel ( German: Meißner Fummel ) - an original bakery product made from thin unleavened dough. Fummel is a culinary attraction in Meissen and a protected trademark. It is a large ball of indefinite shape.
According to legend, the Meissen fummel was invented by bakers at the personal direction of the Saxon ruler Augustus Strong , dissatisfied with the unscrupulous work of his couriers who, returning from Meissen to Dresden, managed not only to lose mail, but also to break the famous Meissen porcelain . As the king suspected, the reason for this was a delicious Meissen wine, which is very difficult to resist. As a result, the king set the task for the bakers to come up with such a fragile pastry that only an absolutely sober courier could bring to Dresden. So there was a fummel who solved the issue of drunkenness among couriers, since since then every time they had to deliver this pastry from Meissen to Dresden intact.
