Martin Wegelius ( Swedish: Martin Wegelius ; November 10, 1846 , Helsinki - March 22, 1906 , Helsinki ) is a Finnish composer, conductor, teacher and musical public figure.

Biography
He studied music in Vienna ( 1870 - 1871 ) and Leipzig ( 1871 - 1873 and 1877 - 1878 ). He was the conductor of the Finnish Opera ( 1878 - 1879 ). In 1882 he founded the Helsingfors Institute of Music (since 1939 - the Sibelius Academy ), whose director was until the end of his life. Wegelius owns a number of symphonic, choral and other works, as well as numerous musicological works, music-critical articles and more. Vegelius raised a number of prominent Finnish composers: J. Sibelius , Armas Järnefelt , E. Melartin , T. Kuula and others.
The composer is buried in the Hietaniemi cemetery in Helsinki.
