Biography

Shamsher Raj Kapoor (real name) was born on October 21 in Bombay. His elder brother is Raj Kapoor , his younger brother is Shashi Kapoor . Between 1948 and 1952 he worked at the Prithvi Theater, owned by his father.

He entered the cinema thanks to eccentric imitations of Errol Flynn , who enjoyed moderate success. In Tumsa Nahin Dekha (1957), he shaved off a strip of his mustache and tried to imitate James Dean and Elvis Presley (for example, the Baar baar dekho song in the movie China Town , 1962), while following more free samples developed by Dev Anand . This style set the tone for films from the late 50s released by Filmistan, such as black-and-white detectives and color romantic stories filmed by Shakti Samantha, and laid the foundation for Manmohan Desai's later appeal to the culture of urban lumpens, for example, in the movie " Bluff Master " (1963).

Shammie often played the role of a spoiled rich guy who wants a girl, but gets involved in gang fights and family squabbles, as a result of which both ends with the brutal beating of the villain. Most noteworthy in this sense is his role in the film " Junglee " (1961). Only “ Four Roads ” was released from the early films of the USSR, therefore, our viewer Shammy Kapoor is better known for the roles of older characters.

He directed the first attempts in Hindi-language cinema to introduce songs reminiscent of Western rock , often colored by the atmosphere of discos and addressed to a teenage audience gravitating towards the West. These were the prototypes of consumer cinema of the 60s, which, according to Manmohan Desai, consisted entirely of “attractions”, that is, loosely connected to each other, dramatically self-contained episodes.

Among his directorial productions of the 70s, the hindi-language remake of the film “ Tender Irma ” - “ In Search of Entertainment ” (1974), as well as “ Bandalbaaz ” (1976) can be noted.

Until recently, Shammi was the producer of the entertainment video magazine Shammi Kapoor Presents Manoranjan and the chairman of Internet Users Club of India .

He died on August 14, 2011 from acute renal failure in a hospital in Mumbai.

“To grow old and experience the various ups and downs of life - this also takes time, and it teaches getting along with life. As soon as you acquire this skill, you can achieve the state of Santhi. "
S. Kapoor [1]

Family

Shammi Kapoor was the son of Prithviraj Kapoor (the founder of the Kapoor cinematic dynasty) and Rama Kapoor, the siblings of Raj Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor , second cousin of Anil Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor , uncles of Randhir Kapoor , Rishi Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor . On August 24, 1955, Shammi married actress Gita Bali (died of smallpox on January 21, 1965), from whom he left two children: a daughter, Kanchan and a son, Aditya. There was a short affair with actress Mumtaz. In 1969, Chammie married a second time to the Nile Davy Gohil.
