Mariya Semenovna Galina (born November 10, 1958 , Kalinin ) is a Soviet and Russian biologist , poetess , writer and novelist , critic , and translator . Candidate of Biological Sciences. Laureate of the Grand Award “ Moscow Account ” ( 2006 ).

Biography
Born on November 10, 1958 in Kalinin (now Tver). Until 1968 she lived in Kiev , then in Odessa . She graduated from the Faculty of Biology of Odessa University and graduate school with a degree in hydrobiology , ichthyology . In a short autobiographical preface to the novel “Farewell, my angel” ( ISBN 5-17-014318-4 ), she wrote that she considered herself an Odessa woman.
Since 1987, lives in Moscow . Candidate of biological sciences, worked at the Research Institute of Hydrobiology, in 1994, under a contract, at the University of Bergen ( Norway ), where she worked on environmental problems and the study of salmon fish populations . Since 1995, she left science, becoming a professional writer.
The first poems were published in the Odessa newspaper Antarctica; the debut publication in the central press - in the journal " Youth " in 1990. In 1997, under the pseudonym Maxim Golitsyn, published her first science-fiction novel, "Time of the Vanquished." In 2002-2003, there were three books of fantastic prose under his own name: “A Coverlet for Avaddon ”, “Farewell, My Angel” and “Wolf Star”. The story "Coverlet for Avaddon" was included in the short list of the prize to them. Apollo Grigoriev , awarded by the Academy of Russian Contemporary Literature [2] .
Member of the Union of Writers of Moscow . Maria Galina wrote many articles published in Literaturnaya Gazeta (where she worked from 1998 to 2001, led a fiction strip and a poetic column entitled Non-stop Poetry), and the New World and Znamya magazines. She also collaborated with the magazines “ If ”, “ Supernova Fantasy ”, “ Literary Issues ”, “The Reality of Fantasy ” by the ExLibris and Izvestia newspapers, etc. At the beginning of the 2000s she collaborated with the Publishing House Forum as the editor-compiler of the intellectual series science fiction "The Other Side ", also for several years was the chief editor of the book digest " Biblio-Globus ". Repeatedly included in the jury of genre awards, in particular, in the expert council of the Big Book award and the jury of the Debut literary prize (2007) [3] . As a critic, she is known mainly for publications on science fiction and poetry. At present, she is the editor of the criticism and journalism department of the New World magazine, the host of the Fiction / Futurology heading (up to 2015), and the leading head of Hyperfiction since 2015.
She translated prose of English-language authors, including Stephen King , Jack Vance , Edwin Tabb , Clive Barker , Peter Straub , as well as poems by modern Ukrainian and British poets.
Maria Galina's prose has been translated into Italian , English , Polish and Ukrainian ; poetry has been translated into English, Slovak, Slovenian, Hungarian, Ukrainian, Latvian, etc.
