Among the authors of articles in the journal were Lenin , Plekhanov , S. N. Bulgakov , Zasulich, and others [2] . In the 1–2 issue, S. N. Bulgakov’s work “On the Question of Capitalist Evolution of Agriculture” was published. In the third issue were published reviews of Lenin on the books of R. Gvozdev, Parvus and the reference book “Commercial and Industrial Russia”. In the fourth issue, there was an excerpt from F. Engels's travel notes “From Paris to Bern”, V.I. Lenin’s review of the book “The Agrarian Question” by K. Kautsky, six sections of Chapter III of the book “Development of Capitalism in Russia” under the heading “Repression capitalist economy in modern Russian agriculture ”, a review of Hobson’s book“ The Evolution of Modern Capitalism ” [1] and G. Plekhanov’s (N. Beltov) article“ On Art ”.
In the fiction department the names of Merezhkovsky and Gippius were distinguished.
Three books of the journal (January - February, March, May) were subjected to serious censorship changes. The fourth book of April was destroyed, and the magazine was suspended by a decree of four ministers. All numbers "Beginning" by order of the government were removed "from circulation in public libraries and public reading rooms" [2] .
