History

The settlement of the aul began gradually from 1864. The founders of the village were representatives of various Adyghe (Circassian) societies, which were captured and sold to the Armavir merchants as serfs during the Caucasian War . With the abolition of serfdom in the Russian Empire, many Circassians who turned out to be serfs bought their "heads" from merchants and moved to nearby Adyghe villages. So the majority of the liberated Circassian peasants from Armavir , gradually settled on the right bank of the Urup River, just below the village of Konokovsky . The very initial name of the aul is Shhashefizh ( Shhashashchefyzh, Shhesheshhehuzh ), literally translated from the Adyghe language - "who bought his head ."

By the first half of 1866, in the aul, there were 47 courtyards with a population of 312 people, of which 168 were men and 144 were women.

In April 1867, by order of the head of the Urup region, the village of Shkhashefizh was given a new name - the village of Urup . However, until now, among the Circassians, the original name of the aul is used in everyday life. At the end of 1875, there were 206 yards in the aul with a population of 1,620 people: 996 men, 624 women.

In the second half of the 19th century, many inhabitants of the village during the course of Muhajirism were exiled to the Ottoman Empire . According to the head of the Labinsky department, for one 1895, out of 2114 inhabitants ( 1077 men, 1037 women ), Urupsky aul, 816 people were deported to Turkey ( 406 men, 627 women ), a total of 126 families from 302 yards.

In 1925, the abolished Konokovsky village council was transferred to the Urupsky village council.

During the Great Patriotic War , the village was occupied by German troops in early August 1942. Released at the end of January 1943.

Now in the aul they speak a special specific dialect of the Adyghe language , which is a mixture of its various dialects.
