History
The southern part of the building - the monastery marshmallow - was erected in the XVII century. At the beginning of the XVIII century. Stepan Kovnir built a bookstore nearby with a separate entrance. Six pediments were erected over the entire building. [3]
After the fire in 1744-1746, Stepan Kovnir rebuilt both buildings, giving them a modern look. [3] During the Great Patriotic War, the building was partially destroyed. Restored in 1963 according to the project of architect M. Alexandrova. [2]
Now in the premises of the Kovnirovsky building is the Museum of Historical Treasures of Ukraine . [3]
Architecture
Among the monuments of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra, the Kovnirovsky building is distinguished by its original architectural forms. The building consists of two structures - a marshmallow and a store, but is perceived as a single building. The dimensions of the building are 49 x 13 meters. [2] The construction is united by six figured gables decorated in the style of Cossack baroque . The largest pediment is above the marshmallow, the smallest above the extension, and four identical ones are above the store. Two pediments in their forms are close to the lateral pediments of the Assumption Cathedral . The walls are divided by pilasters , which pass into the profile cornice. [3]
