History
After Sibirtelecom-Lokomotiv , lost in debt, didn’t show up for the 2011/12 Russian Basketball Championships, a decision was made in Novosibirsk to establish a new basketball club. [1] Financing guarantees were received only in mid-August 2011, after which the emergency formation of a team began, which entered the Major League and the Cup of Russia . [2] Having taken 3rd place in the final protocol, the team received the right to play in the Super League next season. Over the next two seasons, the club steadily went up the standings (5th and 4th place).
The season 2014/2015 is the best for the team in its history. First, Novosibirsk secured the Russian Cup at home, and then managed to win the main trophy, defeating Dynamo Moscow in the final match - 81:78. Victory in the Cup of Russia gave the right to speak in the FIBA Challenge Cup . Pointing “Siberians” Sergei Tokarev was recognized as the most valuable player in the “Final Four” of the Cup of Russia. Also included in the symbolic five: Vitaly Ionov and Pavel Podkolzin [3] [4] .
After winning the cup, Novosibirsk basketball players, having won the final series 3-0 against Spartak-Primorye , became the owners of Super League gold medals and received the right to enter the VTB United League . At the end of the season, the RBF named the best players in the Super League, point guard Sergey Tokarev was recognized as the most valuable player in the tournament , and Yure Shkifich the best light forward [5] .
But the club could not use the results of these victories. In July 2015, the VTB United League Council did not include Novosibirsk in the 2015-2016 championship. The main complaint was that the venue where the matches are held (Sever sports complex) does not meet the requirements of the tournament organizers [6] .
At this time, FIBA was engaged in the reorganization of club tournaments in Europe, the FIBA Challenge Cup was abolished and the FIBA European Cup was formed in its place. In early August 2015, the club sent open letters to the President of the RBF Julia Anikeeva and the Executive Director of FIBA Europe Kamil Novak with a request to include the team in the application for the FIBA European Cup , as the winner of the Russian Cup [7] . Two days later, the press service of FIBA Europe announced a refusal to participate, since only clubs representing the top divisions of European championships should participate in this tournament [8] .
