Swanland is a natural area in Western Australia that occupies the southwestern edge of the West Australian Plateau .
Sub-tropical landscapes of the Mediterranean type prevail in Swanland. Most of this area is occupied by plains , which end with a ledge of the Darling mountain range, located near the coastal lowlands. The Mediterranean climate is favorable for agriculture, which makes Swanland an important wheat and sheep district.
The main rivers of the region are Swan and Blackwood . Precipitation decreases with the distance from the coast from 1500 mm to 400 mm per year (80% of precipitation falls between May and October ).
Flora is distinguished by a large number of endemic species (mainly eucalyptus ), as well as entire genera and families. On the coast there are heavily cut down eucalyptus forests , in the inner plains - eucalyptus light forests and malli-scrub (shrub eucalyptus trees).
