History
The theater was established in 1931. Khakass poet and playwright Alexander Mikhailovich Topanov became the artistic director. In 1954, the theater was combined with the Russian Drama Theater. M. Yu. Lermontov. In 1991, the theater again gained independence. In 1996, it received the status of a national theater; in 2001, the theater was named after AM Topanov .

Currently, performances are played in Russian and Khakass languages . The theater was awarded with prizes of the Ministry of Culture of the RSFSR (“Abakhai Buttermilk” based on the play by A. - Dordgin, Sangadzhi-Garya Odzhakaevich (1908-1946) - Kalmyk composer, Honored Artist of the Kalmyk ASSR . He was exiled during the deportation of the Kalmyk people to Abakan and worked in the theater from December 1943 to September 1946.
