History
The reason for the construction of the bridge was an increase in traffic to the port, which was located nearby. Prior to this, transportation was carried out by ferries that connected the San Pedro area and the island of Terminal. The initiator of the bridge was Vincent Thomas, who represented San Pedro.
Throughout the entire period of construction of the bridge and in the first years after its opening, it was called "the bridge to nowhere" for its futility and futility. But already since the 1970s, the importance of the bridge has increased sharply due to the close proximity to it of the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, which have become the main ports of the West Coast of the United States.
On August 19, 2012, 68-year-old filmmaker Tony Scott , having left a suicide note in his car, the contents of which was not disclosed, committed suicide by noon on local time, having thrown himself from Vincent Thomas Bridge.
