Early years

Young Blanstone tried to get the current champion of England, Wolverhampton Wanderers , but he refused him in favor of the club of his hometown and signed a professional contract with Crewe Alexandra in 1952 . After a series of impressive performances in the Third Northern Division , he was signed by Chelsea head coach Ted Drake for £ 7,500.

Chelsea

At the beginning of Frank's career at Chelsea, it was interrupted by the need to go to military service, and it was his arrival from the army at the end of autumn 1954 that coincided with the beginning of a long period without defeat at Chelsea, on the eve of the championship [3] . His debut at Chelsea occurred in February 1953 in a 3-2 win against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane , in which he scored the third decisive goal. His early years at the club were marked by great success for the team, in the 1954/55 season , Chelsea became the champion of England for the first time and won the Super Bowl . In Chelsea's career, Frank struck a broken leg, but he remained a key player for the club and gave many assists Jimmy Greaves and the young Bobby Tambling [4] . He also helped Chelsea to return to the First Division in the 1962/63 season , before his career put an end to his second leg fracture, and he finished playing at 30 years old.

International Career

In the period between 1954 and 1956, Blanstone played 5 games for the England team . In the debut match, he gave two assists to fellow clubmate Roy Bentley in the match against the Wales team , which ended in a 3-2 victory. He also played in the match, ending the famous victory with a score of 7: 2 over the Scottish National Team at Wembley [5] .

Coaching career

He retired from football in 1964 at the age of just 30, having played in 347 matches for Chelsea and scored 54 goals, he immediately joined Chelsea in the coaching staff. Later, in 1969 , he was appointed as the head coach of Brentford . He led the club to the fifth round of the FA Cup in 1971 , and a year later he led him to the Third Division . After a disagreement with the chairman, he joined Manchester United as an assistant to his former coach at Chelsea, Tommy Docherty . Later, for a short time, he coached the Greek Aris Saloniki and was an assistant coach in Derby County [3] .
