Biography
Born in Turku in the family of the rector of the Academy, he graduated from Imperial Alexander University and from 1910 to 1928 taught in it as a professor of international law. In 1919 he was elected to the Finnish Parliament from the National Coalition Party , and was a member of parliament until 1924. From March 15, 1920 to April 9, 1921 he headed the Finnish coalition government.
The most important achievement of the Erich cabinet is the conclusion of a peace treaty with the RSFSR , the Tartu Peace Treaty was signed on October 14, 1920 and finally established the independence of Finland. After his resignation as Prime Minister, Erich served in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was appointed Ambassador of Finland to Switzerland and Permanent Representative to the League of Nations , Ambassador to Sweden (1928) and Ambassador to Italy (1936). In 1938-1939 he worked at the International Court of Justice in The Hague .
Honorary Doctor of Uppsala University (1932).
