History

The BZ-ART Association of Artists was founded in 1993 with the goal of supporting creative initiatives and cultural diversity as an informal community of young Ukrainian artists who overwhelmingly studied at the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture . The association was formed on the principles of solidarity, mutual assistance and common views on art. In 1994, the association created the first art squat "BZ" in Ukraine , such as the Parisian "Hive". Squat got its name from the reduction of the address of the house: Kiev, Bolshaya Zhytomyrska Street , 25, which was temporarily converted into creative workshops, exhibition halls and music venues.

Squat art initiatives extended to young artists, creative groups, and cell culture. About 150 artists from all regions of Ukraine , as well as from Georgia , Armenia , Poland , Moldova , Russia , Iran , Afghanistan , France , Germany and others, worked under the roof of the squat. All-Ukrainian and international exhibitions , actions , and open airs were held.

Particular attention was paid to innovative projects. So in Kiev, the projects “Video Installation” - curated by Marek Vasilevsky (head of the installation department of the Krakow Academy of Arts) and “Ukrainian Video Art” - curated by Nadezhda Prigodich , video art was first announced as a separate art form. The first informal festival of the kinetic installation “Spring Wind” was founded - curators Andrei Bludov and Aleksey Malykh .

Recognized by the art community as textbook and studied in art schools, the “BP”-initiated installation exhibitions for the participation of artists of the association:

  • “Spherography. Spherogram "- a project of Nikolai Zhuravlya ,
  • “Victory” is a performance of a group of artists of the Ukrainian underground,
  • "Immanuel" - performance by Badri Gubianuri ,
  • “Open Door Night” is a project of the artists of the organization,
  • “Fern Juice (Night on Ivan Kupala)” - a project of body art by artists of the organization,
  • "Apiary" - a project of Nicholas Zhuravlya , painting , installation , sculpture and others.

Achievements

The organization repeatedly took first place in the art ratings "The Best Creative Association of Ukraine", and in 1998 at the II International Art Festival, the BP exhibition space was recognized as the "Best Gallery of the Year" and awarded the Golden Section. The development of communications, cooperation and partnership with state and private institutions required structural changes in the management of the association, which since 1997 received the status of legal entity / public organization - "Kiev organization of artists" BZ-ART " . But the principles and foundations of the association remain unchanged.

Tasks

Among the priorities are support for art initiatives at the local level, their development in the national and international cultural space.

The influence of the organization on the creative environment has entered national importance and gave grounds for the organization in 2006 to receive the status of “All-Ukrainian Creative Union of Artists” “BZ-ART”, which affected the organization’s capabilities. The Union acquired the right to nominate artists for the Taras Shevchenko National Prize .

Creative events

The Union provides support to local creative organizations in conducting creative events such as:

- “Mogritsa” - Land Art Festival, Sumy,

- “Application of the Spirit” - a land art festival, Sumy region, etc.,

- “Carte blanche” - master classes by artists of the organization in the orphanages of the Chernihiv region,

- “Voloshinsky September” - an art plein air of artists of the organization, Crimea.

The Union is directly involved in project management, providing administration and organization.
