I was fond of acting in my school years, speaking in a school theater group. Her film debut took place in 1972 in George Lucas ' teenage comedy American Graffiti , his peculiar nostalgic view of the early 1960s. Then Quinlan starred in television a lot, and also periodically appeared on the big screen in films such as “ Airport '77 ” (1977), “I Never Promised You a Rose Garden” (1977), for the role in which she was nominated for “ Golden Globe ”,“ Twilight Zone ”(1983),“ Clara’s Heart ”(1988),“ Dorz ”(1991) and other lesser-known films.
A great success in her film career was the role of Marilyn Lovell, wife of astronaut James Lovell , in the drama Ron Howard 's Apollo 13 (1995), for which the actress was nominated for the Golden Globe a second time, and also received a nomination for an Academy Award . In the 2000s, Quinlan starred in the films “ The Hills Have Eyes ” (2006), “ Treason ” (2007), “ Friend of the Bride ” (2008), and in the series “ Doctor House ”, “ Escape ” and “ Chorus ”.
Since 1994, Kathleen Quinlan has been married to actor Bruce Abbott , from whom she gave birth to two children.
