Melitopol State Pedagogical University named after Bogdan Khmelnitsky

In the early 1920s, higher pedagogical courses ^[2] (or a pedagogical technical school ^[3] ) were established in Melitopol , and in 1923 the first graduation took place. ^[2]

In 1930, on the basis of the technical school, a working school with full-time and evening instruction was opened, as well as a branch of the All-Ukrainian Institute for Advanced Studies of Teachers.

In 1933, the workers' school was transformed into the Melitopol State Pedagogical Institute. The institute included 3 faculties: physical and mathematical, chemical and biological, and philological. ^[four]

In 1940, to supply coal to the 3-storey building of the institute and its 4 dormitories, the institute began construction of its own mine in the Gorodishchensky district of the Voroshilovgrad region ^[5] .

In 1961, a geographical department was opened at the natural faculty, which later became an independent faculty ^[6] . Later, the departments of physical and economic geography were organized on it ^[7] .

1977 - The establishment of the Research Institute of Biodiversity.

In 2000, the pedagogical institute received university status of IV accreditation level, and in 2009 it was named after Bohdan Khmelnitsky ^[8] .

In 2013, the university celebrated 90 years of its foundation. In 2016, the MDPU became a venue for the Open Night Film Festival, take 19.

The university includes 4 faculties and an institute:

• Faculty of Natural Geography,
• Faculty of Informatics, Mathematics, Economics,
• Faculty of Chemistry and Biology,
• Faculty of Philology
• Educational and Scientific Institute of social, pedagogical and art education.

There is a correspondence department and a magistracy department.

The University is also subordinate to the Scientific Research Institute of Biodiversity of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, consisting of 3 divisions:

• Azov-Black Sea Ornithological Station [1] . It was founded on December 12, 1985, becoming the third specialized ornithological station in the Soviet Union. Until 1997, it was an independent division of the pedagogical institute and included two laboratories. On January 1, 1997, a scientific research institute for the biodiversity of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems of Ukraine was established on the basis of the station. In 2000, with the financial support of the World Wildlife Fund, a wetland management laboratory was established. The ornithological station is engaged in the study of birds in a vast area along the Azov and Black Seas and the development of measures for their protection ^[9] ,
• Laboratory of Ichthyology and General Hydrobiology .

The university has a pedagogical lyceum "Creativity".

• Collection of scientific papers of the Azov-Black Sea Ornithological Station "Brant". Published since 1998, published once a year. [2]
• Scientific Bulletin of the Melitopol State Pedagogical University named after Bogdan Khmelnitsky. Series: Pedagogy. It has been published since 2008, it comes out twice a year. [3]
• Biological Bulletin of the Melitopol State Pedagogical University named after Bogdan Khmelnitsky. Published since 2011, issued three times a year. [four]
• Ukrainian Journal of Educational Studies and Information Technology is a peer-reviewed scientific journal dedicated to modern information technologies and current problems of education [5] .
