Creation History

At the end of 1856, Alexander II decided to build a new steam imperial yacht with a long range.

In June 1856, an agreement was signed between the Maritime Ministry of the Russian Empire and the French shipyard Collot and Company ( French Collas at Comp ), which was located in the city of Bordeaux , for the construction of a frigate and corvette. In 1857, the difficult financial situation of the owner of the shipyard B. Collot forced to sell it to the entrepreneur engineer Arman. The shipyard became known as fr. Kredit Maritaime & Arscan [1] .

On June 9, 1857, the ceremony of laying a wheel corvette called "Alexandra" took place. The corvette was built like a yacht for the Imperial Court. During construction, the yacht was renamed to “Standard”. The 1st rank captain P. Yu. Lisyansky , acting commander of another Svetlana screw frigate, being built at the same time, was appointed to oversee the construction [2] [3] .

On October 7, the “Standard” together with the frigate “Svetlana” left for Kronstadt, on the way visiting Cherbourg and Kiel, where they were examined by the Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolaevich, who was satisfied with the quality of the construction and cabled the emperor about it.

Design

It is a wooden two-masted wheeled yacht with a displacement of 895 tons. The original bow decoration of the yacht consisted of an oval shield with a royal crown in the center and relief images of two fluttering imperial standards running from it along the sides. The cost of the ship is 345 thousand rubles.

Service

After retrofitting in 1861, the yacht, together with other imperial yachts, was included in the ships of the Guards crew. "Standart" with members of the imperial family until 1872, in July - September, made trips to the Finnish skerries, where she visited Helsingfors, Friedrichsgam, and sometimes reached Abo. In addition, the yacht made longer trips to Copenhagen and Stockholm, and at the end of 1874 made a trip to the Mediterranean Sea, where it was at the disposal of Empress Maria Alexandrovna. The last years of service, until 1892, was used for the summer voyages of the Grand Dukes.
