O'Connor is an area in the North Canberra district of Canberra , the capital of Australia . It was founded on September 20, 1928 [1] . Zip code 2602. According to the 2006 census, O'Connor has a population of 4,911. There are 2,221 private households in the district [2] .
Name Etymology
The area is named after Richard Edward O'Connor (1851-1912), a judge of the High Court and one of the authors of the Australian Constitution. The streets of the area are named after travelers, discoverers and lawmakers, and are also named after Australian plants.
Geography
O'Connor is bounded by Wattle and David Streets and includes the Bruce / O'Connor Wildlife Refuge, a hilly wooded area between the O'Connor neighborhood and the Bruce Sports Institute of Australia .
Attractions
The Anglican Church of St. Philip was consecrated in 1961 and consecrated in 1981 .
O'Connor Ridge is a large stretch of forest used for walking and cycling, and is part of Canberra Nature Park .
O'Connor has a small shopping center with the All Bar Nun bar and restaurant, the Flat Heads eatery, a small supermarket, a hairdresser, a bicycle shop, a pharmacy, the Marinettis Italian restaurant and the Tudo Vietnamese restaurant. Across the road are the Canberra branch of the Alliance Frances , the Croatian Club and the Polish Club.
In the central part of O'Connor there are several dead ends in which the so-called Tokumwal houses are located . They are former state buildings included in the list of historical heritage, transported here after the Second World War from the Tokumval air base to fill the shortage of residential buildings in Canberra in the 1950s [3] .

O'Connor houses the O'Connor Cooperative School (public) and St. Joseph's Primary School (Catholic).
Sport
O'Connor's stadium playing fields provide football , rugby and cricket opportunities.
