History

The company was founded in 1993 by Thomas Siebel and Patricia House in the city of San Mateo ( California ). In the 1980s, the company's founders worked for Oracle , and later Siebel served as CEO of Gain Technology , which was acquired by Sybase in 1992. House took over as vice president of marketing and led the company Siebel. The main goal of the company was to create a software system for large organizations that provides management of all aspects of customer relationships. [four]

By the end of 1994, the company managed to develop such a system, it was called Siebel Sales Information System , its customers were such large companies as Charles Schwab Corporation , Cisco Systems , Andersen Consulting , Compaq , customers paid from $ 3.5 thousand to $ 6.5 thousand for each end user [5] . It is noteworthy that Charles Schwab ( Charles R. Schwab ) and Andresen Consulting General Director George Shaheen ( English George Shaheen ) entered the Siebel Board of Directors in 1994, and their companies acquired shares in the Siebel business in the amount of 2.5% and ten %. Later, Andersen Consulting began to provide services to its customers for the implementation of Siebel CRM systems, hiring in 1997 alone more than 300 specialists in the implementation of information systems in a dedicated Siebel CRM implementation unit.

In 1996, the company made an initial public offering on the NASDAQ stock exchange and its shares were traded with the SEBL ticker until the abolition. From that moment, the company began active expansion through acquisitions : in 1997, the company acquired InterActive Workplace ($ 15 million) and Nomadic Systems , in 1999 - the OnTarget consulting company for $ 250 million [6] , and in 2000 - the developer of platforms for online auctions OpenSite for $ 444 million [7] , in 2001 - the company nQuire , the developer of the BI platform [8] , which later became the basis of the Oracle Business Intelligence package and a series of industry-specific analytical applications by Oracle Corporation.

In September 2005, the company accepted Oracle’s offer to acquire it for $ 5.85 billion [9] , the deal was closed in early 2006, and the takeover was noted as friendly [9] .

Performance Indicators

Throughout the history of the company, its revenue grew annually: for example, in 1995, revenue amounted to $ 8 million, the next year it grew to $ 39 million, and in 2000 exceeded $ 1 billion, in its last year of activity - 2005 - the company earned a little less than $ 1 5 billion [1] .

Criticism

The atmosphere in the company was noted as “arrogant and dismissive” [10] , and Siebel’s leadership style was characterized as authoritarian: he was the only one of the company’s leaders listed on the official website [11] , and the only one who had the right to speak to the press [12] .
