Simon Louis de Rey ( German: Simon Louis du Ry ) (* January 13, 1726 in Kassel † on August 23. 1799) was the chief urban planner and architect of the city of Kassel. He also belongs to one of the most important architects of the classicism era.
History
Simon Luis de Rey has French roots. His father, architect Charles du Ray, was forced to flee France , which was then ruled by Louis XIV de Bourbon . Their family was adopted by the Hesse-Kassel Landgraf with the Landgrave Karl .
Later, under the Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel, Frederick II, he was appointed the chief urban planner of the city and took the main role in the planned dismantling of the capital Kassel.

He designed some of the most significant architectural monuments, such as Friedrich Square , Royal Square and the Fredericianum Museum . Kassel’s appearance today owes much to this architect.
