Ohloh is built on the principle of a wiki , anyone can join the community and add new projects to the catalog or make corrections to existing projects. This approach makes Ohloh one of the largest and most accurate open source software catalogs. As of September 2011, 538,117 projects have been registered on the service [4] .

Ohloh is not a hosting project with source code, but a service that allows you to analyze these projects. Ohloh allows you to analyze data on individual projects: activity by project, number of lines of source code, number of developers, information on the activity of each developer, programming languages , licenses used, etc. And also allows you to compare different projects among themselves [5] .

On May 28, 2009, Ohloh was acquired by Geeknet , the owner of SourceForge, an open source software development platform [6] . On October 5, 2010, Geeknet sold Ohloh to an open source analysis company, Black Duck Software [7] and renamed to Black Duck Open Hub .
