Story
The worker of the Warsaw Real Estate Archive Kazimierz Dzevanovic disappears without a trace. This is an extravagant elderly man who has a rather strange hobby - collecting cards with personal data of people born on February 29. The fact is that Dzevanovich himself was born on that day, which appears on the calendar only once every four years, and therefore tries to learn as much as possible about his "brothers." This innocent hobby became deadly for him ...
On the day of the disappearance of Kazimierz Dzevanovic, a certain Henryk Novak, a gardener, comes to him in the archive with a request for a certificate of real estate. Upon learning that Novak was born on February 29, 1916, Dzevanovich arranged a uniform interrogation for him, trying to fetch as much biographical data as possible from Novak. Novak reluctantly answers questions, then Dzevanovich asks him to write his biography and bring it to his house - he gives Novak his address.
Already putting the completed Novak card in his card file, Dzevanovich suddenly discovers another card in the name of Henrik Novak, an engineer, and all the biographical data of that completely coincide with the data of Henrik Novak the gardener. Dzevanovich goes to visit the Novak engineer and also suggests that he write his biography and bring it to his house - he also gives his address to the Novak engineer.
At night, one of them watches over Dzevanovich near the house and kills him in order to take possession of the file cabinet, and throws his body into a ditch, which the workers who repair communications there burrow the next day. He does this in order to take possession of the Dzevanovic file cabinet and cover up the traces, but there is no file cabinet with Dzevanovich.
A thorough investigation by the security authorities leads to unexpected results. The son of the murdered man, Sergeant Yan Dzevanovich, who was initially suspicious, actively takes up the investigation himself with his girlfriend, the flight attendant Elzbieta, and almost dies. The one from Novakov who was originally suspected is himself a victim, although not so innocent. And the other Novak, who at first did not arouse any suspicions, turns out to be a dangerous spy who committed a series of murders. Fearing disclosure, he was about to leave Poland with secret documents on his diplomatic passport. However, Elzbiet recognizes him at the airport. And then Yang called Elzbieta appears, who holds the spy until the security officers arrive in time.
