Behavior
Temnothorax albipennis has interactive learning. Aware forager leads a companion to a newly discovered power source by running in tandem . The "student" receives information from the "leader." In this case, the “leader” and “student” are always in contact and monitor each other's progress: the “teacher” slows down when the “student” lags behind, and accelerates when the student is too close [4] . At the same time, the teacher alone would have achieved food four times faster. Having learned a lesson, “students” themselves often become “teachers”, thus information about the position of the feed is distributed throughout the nest [5] .
Temnothorax albipennis avoid sites with dead ants, as this may indicate the presence of diseases or pests. They immediately abandon the construction of the nest at the first sign of a threat [6] .
Laboratory studies have shown the presence in Temnothorax albipennis anthills of a small proportion of more active working intelligence individuals that activate the movement of other less active ants [7] . Parasitic fungi Myrmicinosporidium durum ( Chytridiomycetes ) were found on ants [8] .
