Nandor Steven Tanczos ( born Nándor Steven Tánczos , Hungarian. Tánczos Nándor , born May 29, 1966 ) is a New Zealand politician of Hungarian descent who was a member of the Green Party from 1999–2008. The first and so far the only Rastafarian in the New Zealand Parliament.

Activities
He was born in the family of a Hungarian emigrant who left Hungary (1957) after the suppression of the 1956 uprising , and his mother was of mixed Hottentot - Dutch - German descent. He graduated from Waikato University and is a specialist in permaculture . He founded a company producing hemp products.
He was involved in the activities of the Cannabis Legalization Party of Aotearoa, then moved to the “green” (first, “Wild Green” - a radical youth organization). In the Green Party, he was responsible for issues related to the environment, sustainable development , information and communications technology, constitutional law, justice and trade.
Remains liberalization of legislation on the use of soft drugs , restorative justice and open source software .
In 1999, he was first elected to parliament, being the fourth on the Green Party’s electoral list. Then he was twice elected on party lists, although he also put forward his own candidacy in the majority electoral district of Central Auckland , gaining 9.2%, 20.0% and 14.4% of the votes in 1999, 2002 and 2005, respectively. After the 2005 election , he was out of parliament for a while, but returned there after the sudden death of Rod Donald, one of the party’s co-chairs. In 2006, he was promoted to the post of male co-chair of the Green Party, vacated with the death of Donald, but lost to Russell Norman.
In 2008, he announced his intention to leave parliament and devote himself to extra-parliamentary mass politics. On June 26, 2008, he quit parliamentary activity, announcing in a recent speech to the New Zealand House of Representatives that he was “leaving to cleanse his soul,” and since governments are controlled by corporations in all countries and therefore unable to respond to the challenges of the environmental crisis, his solution could be found only directly by the peoples themselves.
Because of his religious beliefs, he uses cannabis and wears dreadlocks. At the same time, he is a teetotaler and a fighter against alcoholism.
