The construction of the stadium began on May 7, 2001, the opening took place on August 3, 2003. The stadium became the new home field for the Philadelphia Eagles, which moved to the Veterans Stadium, which was later demolished in 2004.
The rights to the commercial name of the stadium in June 2002 were acquired by Lincoln Financial Group, a holding company for insurance business and investment management. The amount of the contract amounted to 139.6 million dollars for a period of twenty-one years.
